In addition Shakies now offer a range of real fruit Smoothies.
Shakies Franchising Ltd has recently been established to
increase the 3 successful company run outlet by establishing
Franchised outlets in suitable locations.
The management team of Shakies Franchising Ltd brings together
all the hands-on know how of running a Shakies Outlet, with
expertise in running a franchise, property negotiators,
marketing and support. This is a ground floor opportunity to
build a substantial and profitable business at relatively low
cost.

The Franchise Package
We are looking for Single Unit Franchisees who have the energy
and resources to open and run a Shakies outlet, either in a
hands-on role or Master Territory Franchisees who will develop
an agreed number of outlets in a managerial role.
The cost of a Single Unit Franchise is in the region of £31,000,
which includes all equipment, fittings, initial stock, full
training, a tailored launch marketing programme, programme
development and ongoing support. In addition you will need to
allow for the lease of the premises and refurbishment.
Master Territory Franchises are available to operate an agreed
number of outlets in an exclusive territory. As a Shakies Master
Franchisee, you will have a significant business which will
require the right infrastructure and team in place to support
it.
Note: Subject to status, finance is available for the Shakies
Franchise under the Small Firms Loan Guarantee Scheme. If you

The Retail Premises
Store location is a major consideration and we will actively
work with you to find the right shop and negotiate the lease.
The following points should be considered:
A minimum of around 300 sq ft of shop floor and 250 sq ft of
storage.
A1 ordinary retail shop category is sufficient.
Prime High Street position is not essential and indeed is
often too costly.
Proximity to a school or college or in a tourist destination
is desirable.
The Shakies shop layout is clean, simple and low cost. This
means it can be extremely cost effective to take a short term
lease.
The Rewards
Shakies standard milkshakes sell for £2.50 and supersize for
£3.50. Smoothies also sell for £2.50. The gross profit margin is
in excess of 70%.
Turnover depends significantly on location. A small location,
which can be run by two people is expected to have a turnover in
the region of £200,000 and yield a gross profit of over
£140,000. A town centre location is anticipated to have a
turnover of around £400,000., which would result in a gross
profit £280,000 plus.

Property Location - we will work with you to identify a
suitable outlet and negotiate the lease.
Shop Design, Branding and Fit-out the Franchise Package
includes signage and all equipment. We will assist you in
implementing decoration, etc.
Product Supply - our Franchisees will benefit from better
negotiated rates with suppliers.
Full Training - Training will focus on retailing skills,
product knowledge and product training.
Launch Assistance one of our Field Executives will spend the
launch week with you to make sure your opening is smooth.
Launch Marketing we will devise with you a launch marketing
programme, this will depend on your local trading environment.
Our focus is to ensure that when the time comes to launch, you
do not feel isolated, we dont expect you to just get on with
it. Ongoing you can rely on us for technical and marketing
support, this will be achieved by regular newsletters,
Franchisee meetings and personal visits.
The Qualities We Are Looking For
We are looking to appoint a strictly limited number of locally
based Franchisees that have the drive and motivation to work
closely with us to make a success of their own business. No
previous retail experience is required, however you must be
organised, able to follow a planned business format and able to
motivate others, manage staff and exhibit a positive manner with
customers.

1. What areas are available?
Most areas are available. Normally we anticipate opening a
Shakies in a town with at least 150,000 population and you will
be protected by an agreed exclusive territory.
2. What is the cost?
The total requirement is in the region of £40,000. In order to
move quickly in the market you will need approx £15,000 liquid
assets.
3. What experience do I need?
You do not need retailing experience. You must be organised,
able to follow a planned business format and able to motivate
others, manage staff and exhibit a positive manner with
customers
4. Will I be able to sell my Franchise?
Yes, you can sell your Shakies Franchise business just like any
other business. However, we will vet the incoming Franchisee in
the same way as we vet you. We also reserve the right to match
the highest offer you have received and buy the business
ourselves.
5. Will I have to work full time in the business?
No, we will consider people who are able to manage the business
effectively at arms length.
6. Can Shakies offer any financial assistance?
We will assist you in preparing a business plan and can
introduce you to funding specialists.
7. Can I open more than one shop?
Yes and we will encourage you to grow with us.
8. Can I find my own premises?
Yes, but if required we do provide assistance in locating
premises and negotiating the lease. Please note we must approve
all premises, this is important to maintain standards.
7 Steps to Becoming A Shakies Franchisee
Step 1
Register your interest on the form below.
Step 2
We will arrange an initial meeting, either at our offices in
London or at a Regional Meeting. Here you will be required to
sign a Confidentiality Agreement and you will be given more
detailed financial information and Franchise Agreement.
Step 3
Suitable Applicants will then be invited to spend time at an
existing Shakies outlet.
Step 4
You submit an Application with a refundable deposit of £2,500
Step 5
If you are accepted and once the legal formalities are completed
and the required fee is paid we shall work with you to ensure
that your chosen site is suitable and ensure it is refurbished
to our standards.
Step 6
Your training will normally coincide with your store
refurbishment.
Step 7
We will spend the launch week with you to ensure your business
opening runs smoothly and we will supervise your launch
marketing programme.
